I have lived in Holtville since 1965.
My proudest achievements: I have been married to a local farmer with an Engineering degree for 40 years! (Very proud of that.) All three of our children finished college and have traveled. They are my treasured friends.
My next proudest achievement: seeing students become successful at math. I love teaching math and watching people discover that they not only CAN do math, but that it can be exciting.
I began teaching at IVC in 1981 as a part-time instructor and became full-time in 1997. This is a great job: I have over 150 new personalities in my class-room every semester, it is a beautiful place to work, I like my colleagues, and I get paid well. What else could I ask for without sounding greedy?
My favorite courses to teach are the Liberal Studies Math courses, Ma110 Number System, Ma112 Geometry, and Ma114 Children's Mathematical Thinking. I have taught many others, but I've been here so long that they have changed the numbers and the descriptions - so not much use in listing them.
When people ask what I will do when I leave IVC, I like to say "In my next career as a geologist..." I would love to continue my education with all the classes you don't have time to take when you are getting your degree or while you are working. There is so much that I don't know and haven't seen. I want to keep learning until I die.
