ENGL270Introduction to Linguistics

Prerequisites: ENGL 110 or ENGL 101 with a grade of "C" or better. This course is designed to introduce students to the field of Linguistics. In this course students develop an understanding of the nature of language through the study of core areas in linguistics, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Students also read, observe, and think critically about psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, sign language, animal communication, and artificial intelligence. This course is designed for students who plan to transfer as well as for those with a general interest in linguistics. (CSU, UC)
