Francine Hias

Oi! My name is Francine Hias.

I am an Adjunct Psychologist Instructor here at IVC and I am Brazilian.

My story with Imperial Valley started in 1995, when I was an AFS (American Field Service) Student and a Proud TIGER at Imperial High School for my Senior year.

After this once in a life-time cultural experience, I went back to Brazil, and there, I got a B.A. in Psychology from Universidade Catolica de Pelotas (UCPel - 2000), a M.Psy. In Psychology from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC – 2003), and a M.A.Psy. in Brief Psychodynamic Psychotherapy fromUniversidade do Sul de Santa Catarina (UNISUL – 2005).

My experience as a Psychologist is mainly with children and adolescents victims of violence – sexual abuse. I also practice the Science of Psychology as a Clinician doing: diagnosis and technical advice (Federal Police of Brasil – Firearm License).

Before coming back to Imperial, I worked for three years in my hometown (Rio Grande – RS – Brasil) as a Human Resource Manager at a restaurant and catering; and as a School Psychologist in a Public Elementary School.

In 2008 I went back to class; this time at San Diego State University – Imperial Valley Campus (SDSU-IV) where I was a student in the Bilingual Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program.

Most recently, I started teaching at IVC Fall Semester of 2010. You can find me in such courses as PSY 101, PSY 202 or PSY 204. I always use videos, movies and hands on activities in class.

So, that’s a little bit about me! I hope I get to know you in one of my courses!

See ya!
