Hi and welcome to my site. In my previous lives at IVC I have taught ESL and Spanish, but now I teach all levels of reading in the English Department. I am originally from the northern midwest, Michigan and Illinois. I graduated from high school in Alpena, Michigan, and I attended and graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Upon completion of my MA in Teaching English as a Second Language, the traveling phase of my life began. I lived and taught English at a university in Venezuela for a year. Then I joined the US Army and lived in Germany for 4 years after completing a year-long course in Russian at DLI in Monterey, CA. During this time I married and had a child. I later attended the University of Texas, Austin and eventually received a doctoral degree.
Besides being at IVC, I have taught Spanish at the University of Texas and English in Korea and the Republic of Georgia (former Soviet republic), and also for the US military in Germany. Learning languages is also one of my passions; I strive to maintain my Spanish and practice German and Russian whenever possible. So, I definitely know what anguage learning is all about and can relate to students who are traveling that road.
